Our Story
Crafted in Colorado
Turnbuckle Distilling was born from a simple belief: that great spirits come from great ingredients, treated with respect, and given the time they deserve. We are a Colorado craft distillery, rooted in the foothills and inspired by the rugged landscape that surrounds us.
The Source
Our signature blue corn is sustainably farmed on tribal lands at the base of Colorado's Sleeping Ute Mountain. This heirloom grain, grown with care by farmers who have tended this land for generations, gives our bourbon its distinctive character — notes of almond, vanilla, and dark cherry that you won't find anywhere else.
The Craft
Every spirit we produce is hand-crafted from start to finish. We start with hand-selected grains — blue corn from Sleeping Ute Mountain, specially selected rye, evaporated cane juice for our gin and rum. We distill using traditional Old World methods, then age each spirit in hand-selected barrels, many of which are finished in red wine casks for additional complexity.
Our barrel-rested gin rests in spent bourbon barrels, picking up the warmth and complexity of the wood. Our red wine cask bourbon spends two years in charred oak before an additional six months in a red wine cask, creating a smooth finish that has made it a favorite at farmer's markets and tasting events across Colorado.
The Mission
Our mission is to distill craft spirits inspired by Colorado. Every bottle we produce carries the spirit of the foothills — rugged, authentic, and unmistakably crafted. We invite you to taste the difference that intention makes.
The Family
Turnbuckle Distilling is proudly family-owned and operated by The Rothe Family. What began as a shared passion for craft and Colorado has grown into something far bigger than any one of us — a legacy we are building together, for generations to come.
Every decision we make is rooted in the long view. From the grains we source to the barrels we lay down, we are investing in a future our children and their children will inherit. We are not just making spirits — we are building a name, a place, and a craft meant to outlast us all.
